Looking for your next great read and even better company? The Arundel WI Book Club is one of our most active and social groups, perfect for anyone who loves getting lost in a story.
As you'll see below, we explore a diverse range of books, ensuring there is always something fresh on the menu. Our meetings, held roughly every six weeks, are known for their lively conversation and occasional friendly debate—which usually sparks plenty of other tangential chats over a drink and some nibbles. Whether you’re a lifelong bibliophile or just looking to get back into reading, you’ll find a warm welcome here.

Our September meeting
At this meeting we discussed Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler (Headline). The general feeling was that it presents a prescient depiction of climate collapse and economic decay. There was plenty of debate about whether the core philosophy of Earthseed—"God is Change"—acts as a survival guide or a coping mechanism and, while we found the bleak tone and unrelenting violence challenging, the fact that we spent the best part of two hours discussing it, made it an excellent Book Club choice. Our overall score was 5/10.

For our next read we wanted something a little lighter and perhaps more hopeful!
This Booker Prize-winning novella is described on Amazon as 'an eloquent meditation on space and life on our planet through the eyes of six astronauts circling the earth in 24 hours'. It's only around 150 pages long, but apparently encompasses a vast number of themes.
No doubt it will invoke the usual round of discussion, present opportunities for us to reflect on the state of things and give us a moment to set the world to rights.
